*[[ GOLD WITH HONOURS ]]*

~GOLD WITH HONOURS~
NYC - A CLASS OF OUR OWN
OH MY GOSH! WE DID IT!!! WE GOT IT!!! WE MADE IT!!!
GOLD WITH HONOURS!!!!!
haha...This is the most memorable present that I've received from my 4 years in Nanyang Choir! haha.. although results are not always the most important, but this is one significant MILESTONE in NYC's history!!! It just shows even more that our efforts have paid off! Yup. At least, when I leave NYC this year, I will leave happily without ANY regrets! =)
haha.. I woke up at 5.40am feeling very nervous. I don't know why I was, but my heart just started palpitating..Had to calm myself down for quite a while.. hm anyway, I set off excitedly for school and reached at 6.30am.. =) hmm...when we got into M3-01 everyone started scribbling "good luck messages" sent by our seniors/ex-NY choristers/close friends all over the whiteboard to inspire us better. haha.
hmm.. anyway, after assembly, Mdm Mak actually led the school in cheering for us - first sign of her showing her appreciation for choir (i think)... lol.. =p Anyway it was really encouraging to have the entire school supporting us...
haha. went up to M3-01 and did warm-ups. When we started singing the songs we sounded really good! At least, I felt good... I could feel quite a lot of emotions coming from us... but the second time we did it at 9am, our standard dropped a little. I guess we were nervous... hmm.. but we picked up the momentum again... except that YORU ENDED WITH THE WRONG CHORD OMG. That was really horrifying. Oh well... anyway we set off in the coach at 10am.. Quite prepared... =)
heh.. when we arrived at SCH, we saw the Nanhua sops outside. Anyway, I surprisingly felt quite calm then... I just wasn't afraid anymore. I felt that we could do it coz we sounded good this very morning!~ hm. We queued up at the second level and Ms Lim was telling us to calm down, motivating us with her inspiring words..haha. ok, as usual, Ms Lim looked good. She carries herself so well =)
lalala. Thereafter, we went into the "Tuning Room" for the last practice before the real competition!~ haha.. sunset sounded really good (although it was supposed to be our worst song).. Oh well. We weren't supposed to peak then. haha... Anyway we just sang the beginning of each piece and certain parts that we were weaker in.. yeah.. everything was fine and went well.... =) WE WERE READY!!!!!!!
After St.Anthony's Convent, it was our turn!!! Finally!!! We were CHOIR NUMBER 93! =D Well, frankly, I felt very comfortable performing on stage.. The choir was very firm and steady.. I think a few chords were shaky, but overall it was really good. ESPECIALLY COZ OUR B NOTE WAS CORRECT. haha... I was so excited after we ended and kept going "omg.omg.omg.omg.omg" haha. oops. I think Joanna, who was beside me, thought I went a bit mad. But I thought we sounded really goooood! haha. Well, if u look at our performance in February and March, it was so SAI4 compared to SYF.. Gosh, I'm so happy that we SHOT UP in standards in April. WE PEAKED AT THE RIGHT TIME. =)
Sunset was the first piece.... I was very satisfied with it! I thought that the colour change was distinct, especially at the "chinese parts"! haha..To think that Ms Lim only told us of these changes this morning~!! haha.. We portrayed the emotions soo well..... really proud of sunset!!!!
(Despite SAC claiming that we went a tone sharp for this piece. Oh well. Shall see what Ms Lim says.)
Como Tu was the second piece.. I think it was probably the most impactful and impressive piece out of the 3... =) When I peeped in the audience behind Ms Lim just when como tu was about to end, I saw this girl giving a "thumbs-up" signal towards her friend.. haha. ok. I assumed it was for us. =p haha.. Anyway, for this song, the rhythm was steady and firm..Didn't rush much.. and I thought that the crescendo was good at the end.. usually, we start too loud and the crescendo would not be very successful. But this time, I could hear that every step we took was distinctly louder than the one before! yipee! Well done! And we ended with a BANG.
Yoru was our last piece! haha..The very first thing I must say is that we ended with the CORRECT CHORD. Oh my gosh I was soooo relieved!!! AHH. Ok, maybe it was shaky, but still, it was more or less there. haha!! =D haha.. oh yeah, I don't know why but I suddenly felt a mix of nervousness and excitement for yoru.. perhaps it's because it's our last piece.. I was afraid that we would spoil it with the last chord since we already sang really well for the 1st 2 songs. Well, we didn't spoil it!! YESH!! =) haha. But my humming was so unstable.. my note was wavering up and down...!!~ oh well. =p
--------------------------------------------------
OK. RESULTS.
WE WERE REALLY LUCKY. WE WERE ACTUALLY ALLOWED TO STAY IN THE JUDGING HALL TO LISTEN TO THE RESULTS! AND OF COURSE, WE COULDN'T CONTROL OURSELVES WHEN WE HEARD:
"NANYANG GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL... GOLD..WITH HONOURS!!~"
WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
haha. I think our batch is really lucky. We got to listen to our SYF results LIVE for both SYF 2003 and SYF 2005! =) haha.. And both times, we attained the results of our dreams........*
--------------------------------------------------
After that, when we stayed to listen to 4 other choirs, I was kinda shocked by their standards. For the past months, I've been complaining how low the standard of NYC is... Well, but now I really appreciate our voices... that our notes are almost always in tune.. and that we blend so well with each other... Gosh.. when about 15 of us went out at 3pm, we sang at the entrance to the carpark area in the Esplanade...the acoustics were very good.. But our blending was really beautiful =) haha. I'm so proud that we can produce such good music everywhere we go... I really enjoyed the outing today! =)
awwww.. I'm gonna miss our batch so much...I'M SO PROUD OF US! I WILL NEVER FORGET US! When I look back secondary school life in the future, what I will remember most deeply would unduly be CHOIR...Well.... We gone through thick and thin together during our ups and downs.. This may show our inconsistency, but it makes choir life more INTERESTING, doesn't it?? Better than a stagnant choir that's always good! HEH.
------------------------------------------------------
So far, only 9 choirs in total got Gold With Honours:
Monday: Fairfield, VS, RI
Tuesday: TKSS, Commonwealth
Wednesday: EBC
Thursday: NYGH, Cedar
Choirs that got Gold are:
Monday: Anglican, Dunman High
Tuesday: Anderson, Xinmin
Wednesday: St.Nicks, MGS, ChungCheng(main)
Thursday: SAC, IJTP, Temasek
-----------------------------------------------------
sighh. ok, I have one more aim - TOP 5. But this would be a bonus! haha...yeah... just AIM for fun. We have nothing much to lose anyway.. haha. We got what we wanted!! =p
oh well. Good Luck to TKGS tomorrow. Please make Ms Lim proud. =D I know that you all can do it!!! =D
